Visit to Mahidol University (Bangkok, Thailand)

At the invitation of Professor Akira Taguchi, an external board member of our university and vice-President, Tokyo City University, we visited Mahidol University on September 12, 2025. Mahidol University is a national university in Thailand, located in Bangkok (founded in 1888), and is a renowned international university with a top-tier reputation in Thailand. It is particularly strong in the fields of medicine, pharmacy, engineering, and information science.

During our visit, we were guided by Associate Professor Vasaka Visoottiviseth, Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, and met with the Dean, Professor Pattanasak Mongkolwat, and 9 other professors, associate professors, and lecturers. Dean first started with an overview of his faculty, explaining that they plan to construct a new building in two years to further enhance their capabilities. They emphasized their focus on applied research in data science and artificial intelligence. In addition, he expressed interest in international collaboration with our university in these areas. Next, President Miyanaga introduced our university, highlighting its various activities, including international collaborative research in applied chemistry and biology, optoelectronics, and information systems. He also mentioned our recent focus on education and research in information science and the next-generation semiconductor technology.

Professor Visoottiviseth then proposed research collaboration between the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology at Mahidol University and our university. We agreed to begin concrete discussions based on this proposal. We found that the faculty members at Mahidol University have many outstanding research achievements, are very active in international collaborative research, and are highly interested in collaboration with Japan. We hope that this will lead to the agreement of MoU and further international research projects between our two universities.
