Visit to King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (Bangkok, Thailand)

Despite it being a Sunday, on September 14th, 2025, thanks to the kind invitation, we were able to visit King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL). KMITL is a comprehensive university that has a global partnership agreement with our university, having established such an agreement three years ago. KMITL has a long history of actively collaborating with many universities in Japan.

This time, we visited the research laboratory of Associate Professor Pattarapong Phasukkit in the Faculty of Engineering. Professor Phasukkit is conducting industry-academia collaborative research with several companies, and in particular, his joint research with King Mongkut Chaokhun Thahan Hospital focuses on medical engineering research and development. In medical diagnostics for myocardial abnormalities, the conventional method involves using catheters to diagnose from inside the body. However, this research lab is developing a system that uses a suit equipped with many sensors for diagnosis, identifying abnormalities. After that, a doctor would perform its treatment. To achieve this technology, they have divided their proposed AI system into five functional modules, realizing high-precision medical diagnosis through multi-faceted AI analysis.

Additionally, at the support by the Thai government, they are developing a system for predicting linear precipitation bands. Although the application fields are different, they are utilizing a similar AI system for prediction, resulting in a highly accurate weather forecasting system.

Professor Phasukkit's lab has about 10 graduate students who are developing various application systems using AI. They hope to study abroad at Japanese universities, including CIST, and conduct joint research on new AI technologies. We look forward to further international collaborative research.
