Visit to Prince of Songkla University and participation in The 9th International Conference on Information Technology
Prince of Songkla University (PSU), established in 1967, is the oldest national university in southern Thailand. It is one of the nine research universities in Thailand. An international cooperation agreement (MoU) will be concluded with our university in 2023. At the invitation of Associate Professor Aziz Nanthaamornphong, Dean, School of Computer Science at PSU, we visited the Phuket campus, where the College of Computing is located, on November 13th and 14th.
Nine international conferences were held simultaneously on his campus from the 12th to the 15th, including IEICE (the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers) International Workshop on Smart Info-Media Systems in Asia (SISA), with many Japanese researchers participating. President Miyanaga was invited to the 9th International Conference on Information Technology 2025 among them. At the joint conference banquet held on the 13th, he met with PSU President Associate Professor Niwat Keawpradub and exchanged information on future international collaborative activities between the two universities.
On the 14th, Dean Aziz guided the group on a facility tour of the Artificial Intelligence Research Group (Artificial Intelligence Innovation Laboratory, AiiLAB). The group is composed of six associate professors. Lab directors Associate Professor Kwankamon Dittakan and Associate Professor Jirawat Thaenthong introduced the group and shared their recent research findings. PSU's Artificial Intelligence Group focuses on collaborative research, primarily at the request of IT companies. Furthermore, the group has received competitive funding from the Thai government to develop and implement high-performance AI systems. Examples of applications include the development of an AI control system to alleviate traffic congestion, which is common in Thailand; an AI system that automatically assesses and grades the quality of mangoes and durians using image and ultrasound data; and an AI system that automatically detects lesions such as cancer from images and videos.
