Visit to King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (Bangkok, Thailand)

On November 17th, we visited the School of Information Technology at King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL).

KMITL is a national university of the Kingdom of Thailand, headquartered in the Lat Krabang area of Bangkok. Founded in 1960, it was established as a university in 1964. Since its founding, it has expanded with the cooperation of the Japanese government, companies such as NTT, and multiple universities, including Tokai University. In 2017, a branch campus of Carnegie Mellon University opened. Recently, the KOSEN system, which introduces the Japanese “National Institute of Technology” system and allows students from junior high school to receive higher education, was also established on campus. KMITL and our university, i.e., CIST, have been international partnership since 2023.

In this time, through an introduction by Associate Professor Ruttikorn Varakulsiripunth (KMITL Advisor (Academic Affairs)), we had the opportunity to exchange information, including about international collaboration, with executive members of the Information Science field, including Associate Professor Worapoj Kreesuradej, Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology, Professor Kitsuchart Pasupa, Vice Dean (Research and Innovation), Associate Professor Kuntpong Woraratpanya, Deputy Dean (Academic Affairs), and Associate Professor Pattanapong Chantamit, Assistant Dean.

Assistant Dean Pattanapong gave an overview of the Faculty of Information Technology. This faculty has existed in Thailand for over 30 years, and many of its graduates are currently active both domestically and internationally. President Yoshikazu Miyanaga introduced his university, i.e., CIST, and provided information on the current advanced DX human resource development (DX-HRD) program and next-generation semiconductor projects.

Deputy Dean Kuntpong introduced the international university network that is currently underway, and suggested that our university also join the network, which is currently within ASEAN. The main mission is to hold international conferences on a rotating basis. In the future, they also said they would like to promote joint seminars and student exchange programs. Our university has already signed an MoU with KMITL, and participating in the international university network would be a good opportunity to broaden the scope of our activities.
