International Workshop on Computation: Theory and Practice 2025
The Workshop on Computation: Theory and Practice 2025 (WCTP2025), an international conference in which our university participated as one of the technical co-sponsors, was held over three days from December 1st to 3rd, 2025, at Chitose Arcadia Plaza, adjacent to JR Hokkaido's Minami-Chitose Station.
Research into computer science theory and its applications is recognized as an important area of information science. For example, theories on algorithm construction and software that utilize them are related not only to processing high-speed but also to energy optimization. Furthermore, simulation theory and its applications are highly versatile and flexible, making them important technologies that are directly related to cost reduction and other areas. Recent research results in these fields were presented at the workshop.
This international workshop, chaired by our university's Professor Shigeki Hagihara, marked its 14th year. There was one keynote speech, "Where computer science meets photonic devices," delivered by Professor Hiroshi Fukuda (Department of Information Systems Engineering, CIST). With 23 pre-registered attendees from Japan and 50 from overseas, the total attendee count on the day was approximately 100. During the conference, general presentations were also given by university and corporate representatives, as well as students.
The conference provided an opportunity to exchange information on research and development related to computational theory, simulation theory, and their applications, and is expected to foster a global network of collaboration among participants.
During the conference, participants from the Philippines paid a courtesy visit on December 2nd. Eleven researchers, including Professor Macwayne N. Maniwang, President of the University of Saint Louis; Professor Jaime D. L. Caro, University of the Philippines; and Dr. David Michael F. Shinyo, President of TechFactors Inc., met with President Yoshikazu Miyanaga, CIST. They introduced their respective organizations, including CIST, and exchanged information on recent research and development.
