On the afternoon of Wednesday, August 12, 2026, President Yoshikazu Miyanaga and Vice President Masatoshi Suzuki paid a courtesy visit to National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU).

National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) is one of Taiwan’s leading national comprehensive research universities, located in Hsinchu City. In addition to its campuses in Hsinchu, NYCU has campuses in Taipei, Yilan, and Tainan. The university was established in February 2021 through the merger of National Chiao Tung University and National Yang-Ming University. NYCU is one of Taiwan’s five most prestigious national universities, collectively known as “Taiwan’s Five Leading Universities” (台清交成政), comprising National Taiwan University, National Tsing Hua University, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, National Cheng Kung University, and National Chengchi University. NYCU has more than 4,000 students and approximately 1,400 full-time faculty members and researchers.

With the kind assistance of Professor Yu-Te Liao, Associate Dean of the College of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the delegation met with Professor Lan-Da Van, Associate Vice President for International Affairs, in a conference room at the College. Faculty members introduced NYCU and provided an overview of its international collaboration activities.

President Miyanaga then introduced the Chitose Institute of Science and Technology (CIST), including its educational and research activities, and explained CIST’s initiatives for developing human resources in the semiconductor field. The participants subsequently exchanged views on opportunities for future collaboration between the two universities.

Following the meeting, the delegation toured NYCU’s Semiconductor Talent Development Center, guided by Professor Liao. The Center houses a large-scale cleanroom equipped with facilities for hands-on semiconductor fabrication training, as well as equipment that enables students to prototype chips they have designed themselves. The cleanroom is divided into multiple rooms corresponding to different training and experimental activities, with specialized equipment arranged according to the respective processes and experiments.

With support from companies located in the Hsinchu Science Park, the Center provides training not only for students but also for working professionals seeking to reskill. Its programs cover a broad range of semiconductor-related education, from the fundamentals of semiconductor chip fabrication to advanced applications, including higher-level design. The visit provided valuable insight into how the Center effectively implements comprehensive semiconductor human resource development programs through close collaboration with semiconductor-related companies.
