Signing of a Comprehensive Partnership Agreement with National Taipei University of Technology (TaipeiTech), Taipei, Taiwan

On Thursday, August 13, 2026, President Yoshikazu Miyanaga and Vice President Masatoshi Suzuki visited National Taipei University of Technology (TaipeiTech) in Taipei, Taiwan, to attend the signing ceremony for a comprehensive partnership agreement between TaipeiTech and the Chitose Institute of Science and Technology (CIST).
 

TaipeiTech is a leading university of science and technology located in Taipei, Taiwan. Its predecessor was the Taipei Industrial School, established by the Government-General of Taiwan, and the institution has a history spanning nearly 100 years. It has produced numerous entrepreneurs and is regarded as one of Taiwan’s leading universities in science and engineering. The institution was reorganized as a university in 1994. Today, TaipeiTech comprises six colleges, with approximately 460 faculty members and around 14,000 students. It also has an active international exchange program, with partnership agreements with more than 350 institutions overseas.
 

The signing ceremony was attended by Professor Yi-Jun Jen, President of TaipeiTech; Professor Tun-Wen Pai, Vice President; Professor Chuan-Ming Liu, Dean of the Office of International Affairs; and Professor Po-Chun Chen of the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering. Following greetings from the presidents of both universities, the partnership agreement was formally signed. The ceremony concluded with an exchange of commemorative gifts and a group photograph.
 

Professor Chen has already been conducting joint research with Associate Professor Makito Haruya of CIST. Two graduate students from TaipeiTech are scheduled to stay in Associate Professor Tanaka’s laboratory for several weeks beginning in mid-August. Professor Chen is also scheduled to attend an international conference to be held in Japan and plans to visit CIST during the second week of September.

Following the signing ceremony, President Miyanaga and Vice President Suzuki, accompanied by Professor Chen and guided by Professor Liu, moved to the Office of International Affairs for discussions on specific areas of collaboration between the two universities.
 

As joint research is already underway, the participants proposed organizing international workshops and symposia at both universities, using the existing research collaboration as a foundation for further academic exchange. After consultation with Professor Chen, it was agreed that preparations would proceed toward the implementation of these activities.
