Chitose Institute of Science and Technology Joins the Leading-edge Semiconductor Technology Center (LSTC)
As of July 1, 2025, Chitose Institute of Science and Technology has officially become a member of the Leading-edge Semiconductor Technology Center (LSTC), a technology research association.
LSTC, established on December 21, 2022 under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), is a technology center that aims to advance research and development for the sound and sustainable growth of a highly digital society. The purpose of the project is to bring together the full capabilities of Japan’s industry and academia, and to conduct research and development that contributes to the sound and sustainable advancement of a highly digital society through international collaboration.. The center also promotes the division of roles and collaboration among educational institutions, research organizations, and industries, with the goal of fostering the next generation of semiconductor professionals, both domestically and globally.
Currently, LSTC consists of seven corporate members and fifteen universities, including national, public, and private institutions. Chitose Institute of Science and Technology is the first public university to join LSTC.
Moving forward, we will work alongside other LSTC members to promote research and development in next-generation semiconductors and to foster the development of talent in this critical field.
LSTC was established to support large-scale semiconductor projects initiated by the Japanese government, such as Rapidus Corporation, a key next-generation semiconductor manufacturing hub based in Chitose.
In April 2024, our university launched the Chitose Silicon Research Center (CSR), which is dedicated to developing highly skilled talent in the fields of Digital Transformation (DX) and Green Transformation (GX) to support the future semiconductor industry. Through our membership in LSTC, we aim to further accelerate our efforts in research, development, and human resource cultivation in the next-generation semiconductor domain.
