Meeting on International Collaboration at De La Salle University (DLSU)

Report by President Yoshikazu Miyanaga

In November 2024, Chitose Institute of Science and Technology (CIST) concluded a comprehensive international partnership agreement with De La Salle University (DLSU). Furthermore, in December 2025, an international workshop (WCTP2025, December 1–3) will be held in Chitose, with the participation of DLSU and other universities.DLSU is a large private comprehensive university with more than 1,500 faculty members and over 20,000 students.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with CIST includes provisions for co-hosting international conferences, joint research, and student exchanges. During his visit on August 18, 2025, President Miyanaga discussed possibilities for new initiatives.

In the morning, President Miyanaga met with Professor Ethel Ong, Dean of the College of Computer Studies (Photo 1), to exchange views on sending undergraduate and graduate students from CIST’s Faculty and Graduate School of Science and Technology. Professor Ong explained that the College has been accepting international students (mainly undergraduates) and, for the past two years, has organized short-term seminars hosting several dozen students from multiple universities in Korea and Taiwan. The seminars have primarily focused on fundamental topics in artificial intelligence and big data, and Professor Ong expressed that accepting students from Japanese universities would also be possible.

In the afternoon, President Miyanaga met with Professor Elmer Dadios of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Intelligent Systems (Photo 2). President Miyanaga and Professor Dadios have long collaborated through IEEE international committees and conference organizing committees. Professor Dadios provided an overview of the upcoming International Conference on Humanoid, Nanotechnology, Information Technology, Communication and Control, Environment, and Management (HNICEM2025), which will be held in Cebu in late November.
