Visit to Bohol University (Bohol City, Philippines)
The IEEE International Symposium on Multimedia and Communications (ISMAC 2025), an international conference, will be held on Panglao Island in the Philippines. Professor Akira Taguchi (Vice President of Tokyo City University, and External Director of our university), who is also a participant in the conference, introduced me to Bohol University. Bohol University is a private university in the Philippines, founded in June 1946, and is the first university in the province of Bohol. It boasts a long history. It is a comprehensive university with faculties including the School of Environmental Science, School of Science and Engineering, and School of Medicine.
Upon arrival, I was escorted to a conference room next to the president's office, where I met with the president of Bohol University, as well as the vice president and deans of the science and engineering faculties. First, Dr. Victoriano B. Tirol III, president of Bohol University, gave an overview of the university. Then, President Miyanaga provided an overview of Chitose Institute of Science and Technology and shared recent topics in education and research (Photo 1).
Since its founding, the University of Bohol has aimed to improve its educational capabilities in the field of liberal arts, which is the university's vision. To that end, the university has been proactively pursuing international collaboration, sending students abroad, and accepting international students, and is actively promoting the dispatch of faculty members and short- and medium-term student exchanges to Japanese universities. President Miyanaga introduced the university's current situation in this regard, and we exchanged our comments on future international collaborations and other topics.
After the meeting, the participants had a short tour of the campus. The university campus is home to elementary, junior high, and high schools, and people of all ages, from young children to university students, could be seen walking around the campus.
